Galaxy 5 - Galaxy 12 Transition -On the morning of January 10, 2005 PanAmSat will transition our customers from Galaxy 5 to Galaxy 12. The transfer window will begin at 0300ET (3AM ET) and end at approximately 0600ET (6AM ET). Link

Dec. 21/2004 SkyReport Reports this: On Jan. 10, PanAmSat will transition customers from its Galaxy 5 satellite to Galaxy 12. 4DTV Mail 12/21 CBand Talk Radio -> C Band Talk Radio with Dana Pretzer can now be heard on W3-956. It will simulcast with W7-956 until early Januray 2005 when W7-956 cease.

Discovery to rename Wings channel to Military channel on January 10, 2005. (C3-611)
This is an update as of: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2nd Intelsat has been able to recover a large segment of the IA-7 satellite. As of 2:00 p.m, we are testing Cluster 050 and customers may have their service restored as soon as this afternoon. Please keep in mind that service may be intermittent until testing is complete.
If testing goes as expected, customers on Clusters 002 and 189 will be able to start restoring service as early as 12:00 p.m. ET on Friday 12/03/04. These customers will be required to download a small file and reprogram their modem; however, they will not be required to move or re-point their StarBand antenna. Further instructions will be sent to your StarBand e-mail address and posted on this announcement. We sincerely regret this inconvenience and thank you for your patience. ( Link )
The CNNfn Network will cease broadcasting Dec. 15. CNNfn, the financial news cable network owned by Time Warner Inc., on Thursday said it will cease operating by mid-December after fighting a losing battle against far larger rival CNBC. ( Link )
4DTV mail (Dec 2/04) -> L7 Ku-band is gone. L7 map was re-pointed and renamed as X9, Galaxy 13 Ku @ 127 degrees West. Please un-program X9 and re-program it in at the new settings.

4DTV mail --> Satellite T7 programming has moved to Intelsat Americas 13. New map will download overnight or while on G0-13 or 101 briefly unplug and restore power to receiver, leave for 15 minutes to load new map. To receive the T7 programming you must un-program T7 then re-program in at new location East of G0 using OPTIONS 6-4-4. Tile name will remain T7 for now. "Outage On Clusters 002, 050 and 189: On Sunday morning, we lost communication with the IA7 satellite and it cannot be repaired. All customers with Tech IDs begining with 002, 050 and 189 are affected. To restore service we are working with our satellite providers to move customers to a different satellite and we are working to provide our customers with temporary dial-up service. IA7 satellite at 129 degrees West is not working (died some how) and most programming on it has moved to IA13 at 121 degrees; IPG people have been notified and they will have to remap this satelite location into the 4DTV for now you can reprogram T7 to 121 degrees just a few degrees left of G0 (G10) channel 21 analog is up and running and a few digital channels work others need to be remapped by Motorola (Sunday Nov. 28/2004)

TVN Shifts Focus to VOD (Multichannel News Link)
- TVN Entertainment Corp. will discard all but one of its 20 linear pay-per-view channels early next year in an effort to focus more resources on its video-on-demand business.As operators seek to regain valuable bandwidth -- and with TVN’s PPV channels generating just 10% of the company’s transactional business -- executives said the move is an acknowledgement of the realities of the burgeoning VOD marketplace.“We are very excited about VOD and are seeing exciting numbers in the industry in terms of the growth of VOD-enabled homes and buy-rates,” TVN chief operating officer Doug Sylvester said.“There’s really starting to be great consumer acceptance of VOD, so we’re positioning our company for the future of the transactional business, which, we believe, is VOD,” he added.Beginning next month, TVN will start eliminating 19 PPV channels -- 10 movies, three adult slots and six themed channels. By April, all that will remain is one generic PPV channel featuring live events and movies, according to Sylvester.“The overwhelming majority of our affiliates have been pushing for this transition and have been driving their business toward VOD,” Sylvester added. “In some cases, there are some affiliates that would like to continue to offer PPV channels next year, and in those cases, we’ll support their transition.”

(Sept. 22/04) NPS has been notified by Speed Channel that the analog signal cut-off date has been extended to 12-31-04. We are still trying to make the digital signal available to 4DTV after the analog one goes off. NPS is selling Speedvision as a monthly service now. (from 4dtv forum via NPS)

NPS is working for carriage agreements with MavTV. John Pardieck is responsible for setting up an affiliate agreement to carry MavTV on 4DTV.
MSNBC added to W4 tp. 22 & Bravo added to W4 tp. 24 only added for olympic coverage after that time they will discontinue these extra feeds & revert back to their original locations

C-Band: New Subscriber Numbers Available ( Full Story )
Effective Thursday, September 15, 2004, PrimeTime 24 will switch satellite locations to the AMC-3 satellite. The transponder locations on the new satellite will be as follows:
AMC-3 Transponder 5C WNBC, NBC New York
AMC-3 Transponder 19C WKRN, ABC Nashville, TN
AMC-3 Transponder 23C WSEE, CBS Erie, PA
From September 15 through September 28, 2004, PrimeTime 24 will dually illuminate its East Coast networks on both the old AMC-1 and the new AMC-3 satellites. Effective September 29, 2004 the dual illumination will cease and PrimeTime 24’s East Coast networks will only be available on the new AMC-3 satellite. From September 16 through September 28, 2004 the AMC-1 transponders will carry a tier addressed message notifying subscribers of the new transponder locations for the PrimeTime 24 networks.
NPS is reporting to that as of Aug. 31 the analog services on C4-11 (speed channel) will no longer be available they are working to see if it can be available on 4DTV
NPS reports that the Fox Sports channels are gone at the end of the year on 4DTV due to low subscriber numbers
NPS is reporting that at this time, Lifetime East will be switching to digital PowerVu this fall not compatible with 4DTV. The anticipated date for switching to digital PowerVu is Oct. 6th, 2004.

Great Classical Music moves to new channel on satellite Galaxy 5

Beginning July 1, 2004, you'll find WCPE's unscrambled audio signals on C-band satellite Galaxy 5, Transponder 15, at 5.58 and 6.12 MHz (for our discrete left and right audio channels.)
Please note that these are the same audio frequencies that WCPE has, until now, occupied on Galaxy 5, transponder 7. Note also that transponder 15, like transponder 7, utilizes horizontal polarization. This is great news for anyone who has been acquiring WCPE from transponder 7 on Galaxy 5. All one must do to continue receiving Great Classical Music, without interruption, is to switch the channel setting on his receiver to transponder 15. All other settings remain unchanged. We hope this makes your transition to our new location as smooth and convenient as possible. WCPE must leave transponder 7 because the main signal on that channel -- WGN television from Chicago -- is converting to digital carriage. As always, WCPE remains committed to providing the finest in classical programming, commercial-free, for radio stations, cable TV systems and other program distributors, as well as owners of home C-band satellite receivers. We still offer blanket permission for any legally authorized program provider to use our programming free of charge. In addition to our analog signal, WCPE offers a digital signal on satellite AMC 4. This feed is unaffected by the move on Galaxy 5. We also hope we can soon provide an additional digital signal in the DVB format on a Ku-band satellite, offering you another downlinking option. WCPE, a completely listener-supported radio station, has provided Great Classical Music to listeners in North Carolina for 26 years. Marc from WGN on the 4DTV forum says: "I work for WGN TV - Superstation WGN and apparently our upcoming changes have not been accurately reported. We are moving the location of the Superstation's primary uplink, and upgrading most of the infrastructure that supports the signal. In addition, we are "cleaning up" our bandwidth and sub-carriers to prepare for future enhancements. One of the first changes will be a digital standard definition copy of the current analog signal. Please be assured that there is NO PLAN to discontinue the current VC-II+ analog feed anytime in the future. We have recently invested in new servers and other hardware to support the VC-II+ system. I hope this information clarifies the situation."
On Sat says that " WGN will be adding a digital signal to their G5/7 transponder in late June through the end of the year, at which time they will discontinue their analog feed and be strictly digital." The classical music radio stations carried by WGN will also have to find new broadcast locations.

Tech TV on satellite C4 tp12 on their channel says: "Dear Tech TV viewer, Tech TV is changing to a newer satellite on May 1st. If you are able to read this message, please contact your cable provider and ask them to switch to the new Tech TV digital signal ASAP to ensure that you can continue to enjoy Tech TV." In the early hours of May 4, 2004, SES Americom will coordinate a transition with all programmers that currently use Satcom C-4and move their transmission to AMC-10. Subscribers should experience nothing more that a momentary glitch as the transition from retiring C-4 satellite to the new replacement satellite AMC-10 is completed.
TNT HD opts for PowerVU The diverse sports and entertainment programming of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s (TBS, Inc.) popular TNT (Turner Network Television) network will be available in high- definition for viewing on TNT in HD transmitted by a Scientific-Atlanta PowerVu digital content distribution system. Turner expects TNT HD to be commercially available to viewers in May 2004. In
addition to the PowerVu HD encoding equipment installed in Atlanta, TNT's cable affiliates will use the cost-efficient, space-saving PowerVu D9850 Program Receiver. ( TELE-satellite News) Therefor no TNT HD for 4DTV
GMTN (Gospel Music TV Network) We will begin migration to T7 Transponder 20 on March 31st and complete this transition on April 8th, 2004. We will dually illuminate for a short period, in order to give our affiliates time to make the transition. Note we will be turning off GMT on transponder 22 on Friday, April the 9th. *Thus, the switch by our affiliates should be done starting the 31st and no later than the 8th. NPS adds new online rehit form link ( NPS )
From NPS on April 26th CNBC will be moving to satellite AMC-3, transponder 22 (4DTV W3 -22)
As of April 1,2004 (aprox.5:10pm est.) the guide data is now working; TVN & Motorola have fixed this IPG
Dealers -> when a customer asks for a rehit for the guide ask the customer to tune to satellite G0-101 NOT GO-09!
Other instructions on getting the new channel maps are: (from NPS)

go to G0-101 and make srue the DCII light is on the receiver
unplug the receiver (power cord) while the receiver is still on and keep it unplugged for about 20 seconds no longer
plug the receiver back in and let it go through warm-up and let it sit there without changing anything for 30 minutes; this will allow for the software to download
to check if you have the new channel maps you could tune to T7 891-896 CRN521-526 should be available; changes to TVN & DMX audio on G0 have been made ; G9 radio channels removed only 1 station should be there now G9-951

March 30,2004 Guide Data is moving Wed March 31 by Noon Pacific Time/3pm Eastern. A new channel map will be on air. To get the update, briefly unplug and restore power to the receiver. Tune to one of these channels G0-101, G1-600, G1-4 for 15min. Guide Data and G0 channels will be available after the update.
Intelsat has purchased Loral Skynet's domestic fleet. That sale was finalized on March 17 2004.
Intelsat will be changing the name of the satellites from the familiar "Telstar" names to "Intelsat Americas" or IA for short. The list below shows the name transitions.
Telstar 5 or T5 is now Intelsat Americas™ 5 or IA-5, this satellite will remain at 97°W.
Telstar 6 or T6 is now Intelsat Americas™ 6 or IA-6, this satellite will remain at 93°W.
Telstar 7 or T7 is now Intelsat Americas™ 7 or IA-7, this satellite will remain at 129°W.
Telstar 13 or T13 is now Intelsat Americas™ 13 or IA-13, satellite will remain at 121°W.
Telstar 8 or T8 to be named Intelsat Americas™ 8 or IA-8, this satellite will be launched in mid-2004 and operate at 89°W.

Uplinks will continue to access through Hawley for the next 3 - 12 months.
Intelsat is building a new access center in Hagerstown , Maryland . No exact transition date yet to that facility.
ABC, CBS and FOX will have a say in when that transition takes place.
Ecore HD East is now at Satellite G9 channel 126 & Encore HD West Satellite G9 channel 128
Rumor can't confirm yet has it that CNBC will be going digital for sure, and also will remove its G5 analog feed to possibly AMC3 analog feed
Encore HD will be available soon on C-Band using 4DTV Word has it will be included in the Starz digital package
NOTE! Regarding C-Band Satellite Reception: The America One Television Network, current distributor for the HorseTV programming, has changed its broadcast signal from analog to digital and moved to the Telstar 7 satellite for its transmission. Unfortunately, C-band dishes will no longer be able to receive HorseTV again until the launch of 24/7 HorseTV Channel which is planned for later this year. ( Link )
NASA will choose to go digital in DVB 4:2:0 format for at least the next 3 years, and probably much longer because of costs and not 4DTV because its too expensive at this time to uplink in a 4DTV mode.
The CNBC signal will be migrated over to the newly launched Satcom C-4/AMC-10 Transponder #13. From March 1st through April 26th, MSOs can access both the current Galaxy V analog and the new digital Satcom C-4/AMC-10 signals for CNBC. Effective April 26/04, the CNBC analog signal from the current Galaxy V satellite will no longer be available. No idea what this means to 4DTV users at this time( Link )

Starz Encore Group LLC (Starz) will launch Encore HD on March 22. The announcement was made at the Cable & Television Association of Marketing (CTAM) Digital & Broadband Conference. Encore HD, the Hi-Def version of the flagship Encore service, will be transmitted in wide-screen 16x9 1080i and feature Dolby Digital 5.1 sound with East & West Coast feeds. No word if this will be available to 4DTV users or not, but it will be available to VOOM satellite users. It will be in the VA VA VOOM package, a special all-inclusive programming offer for $79.90 per month, or through the STARZ PlusPack for $14.90 per month.

New Cable Network Wealth TV To Launch On Panamsat'sS Galaxy 13 ( full story )
NASA will soon begin the process of converting NASA TV to an all digital system. Digital technology will enable NASA to compress its signal and concurrently broadcast multiple channels of broadcast quality video as well as interactive and text data, all from one satellite transponder. Fox Moves All U.S. Programming to the PanAmSat Fleet (full story)
AMC 10 Successful launch from cape canaveral to replace Satcom C4 at 135 degrees west (Feb 5/04) (info. & info.2) The second satellite, AMC-11, is scheduled for launch in May and will reside at 131 degrees W.L., replacing Satcom C-3.
On September 2004 Spike Tv west on G1-6 will leave C-band & Spike Tv East (now at G5-18) will move to G1-6 on this same date
Due to technical difficulties the location of TENXtsy will move Monday January 26, 2004, 11:00 am EST from its current location to Telestar 6, transponder 7 (T6-7). From Onsat 1/12/2004 HBO Pulls Four."The network that brought the first instance of encryption to the C-BAND satellite TV market has pulled the anolog plug on four of its feeds. Look for HBO2 East & West, HBO Signature East & More Max East to drop from the analog skies on April 30, 2004. Note: HBO & MAX will be available on the 4DTV in Digital DCII on satellite G1

There is a two month dual feed while they test the HBO HDTV feeds on satellite G9, the feeds are not going away on T7 until the end of July 2003. VIACOM Inc said it had bought debt-laden AOL Time Warner's 50 per cent stake in Comedy Central cable television network for $US1.225 billion.Viacom already owns the other half of Comedy Central. Transition to digital feeds for A&E and The History Channel(R) west coast affiliates will begin in August 2003 .A&E Television etworks (AETN) has chosen a Scientific-Atlanta(R) PowerVu(R) digital video compression system for onverting its North American content distribution system from analog to digital. When the new PowerVu system goes into operation this fall, west coast affiliates of A&E and The History Channel(R) will be the first to begin receiving their AETN program feeds through PowerVu receivers.Conversion to a digital feed for west coast affiliates for A&E will begin in August and will be complete by September 30. The History Channel west coast conversion to a digital feed will start October 1 and will eliminate its analog feed by the end of the year. 4DTV users will not be able to receive west coast feed from these channels any more once this conversion has taken place. Playboy continues to report that the service will be available as soon as they finalize agreements with Motorola and the packagers. The situation has been complicated by the fact that the C-band sales rep for Playboy resigned effective 10/24.

Kind of old but still worth noting: July 22, 2002 - Princeton, NJ -- SES AMERICOM announced today that Home Box Office has signed a multi-transponder service agreement to begin using AMC-4 at 101º W.L. in January, 2003. HBO will use AMC-4 to continue its distribution of four analog multiplex feeds -- HBO2 East and West, HBO Signature East, and MoreMAX East -- to HBO’s TVRO C-Band subscribers.

Fall Free Movie Weekend' Oct. 4 through 6.The network hopes nonpremium subscribers who catch Rush Hour 2, The Mummy Returns and other scheduled movies will order the network. Hallmark's analog channel has gone and is not available to 4DTV
The Hallmark Channel has picked up classic TV series M*A*S*H from its current cable home on FX. Hallmark will begin airing all 255 episodes in September 2003 and may run the series across different dayparts. Hallmark also acquired rights to the two-and-a-half hour season finale, the most-watch show in TV history. FX moved stalwart M*A*S*H into prime time line up last year to replace struggling off-nets of Ally McBeal. But the older-skewing series seems a better match for Hallmark, which will now becomes M*A*S*H's exclusive cable home.
Loral Skynet will broadcast video clips from some of the original,groundbreaking Telstar 1 transmissions. Update Prime Time 24 On Monday July 1, 2002 Primetime 24 will switch satellite locations to AMC-3 also known as W-3 (not AMC6) This is the same satellite where WPIX, TCM, and KTLA are located. >From July 1st to July 15th the signal will be dually illuminated, at the currents locations on W4 as well as the new locations on W3. The new locations will be:
- w3- Transponder 08 - WNBC, NBC New York
- w3- Transponder 10 - WKRN, ABC NAshville, TN
- w3- Transponder 12 - WSEE, CBS Erie, PA

Goodlife TV Network located on G1 (Galaxy 1-R C-Band) , Tr. 22 will be going digital on June 20, 2002; the digital signal will be on the same satellite and same transponder; no idea if it will be available to 4DTV at this time
Arianespace will launch the Intelsat 905 telecommunications satellite in to orbit tonight (June 4)(early Wednesday morning, June 5th Eastern time) from Kourou, French Guiana. The launch window opens at 2:44 a.m. ET and runs for one hour. Broadcast coverage to North America will begin at 2:14 a.m. ET on AMC-2/11 C band (formerly GE-2).
GI/Motorola has added the German TV channel to the line-up for 4DTV on W1 735, call letters in the guide are "German" and will be showing up in the next two or three days. The channel is available now if you do a soft reset to load the new map and scroll to the channel. There is currently a TAM only on the viewing screen with the following message:

Letters were sent out with recent annual bill Subscribers (Superstar, Netlink or Turner Vision) programming package prices have gone up due to declining number of big dish subscribers & costs of ESPN (mentioned) & "programmers" costs going up.
A new multi-niche digital premium service --S Network, managed by New York-based Sovereign New Media Group Ltd., will launch a trial preview of its proposed service May 9, using Galaxy XI, transponder 13 (DCII). The satellite feed will continue through the end of the month, as Sovereign officials hold carriage negotiations with MSOs.
NPS is close to completing the deal to add YES network to the Absolute Digital package. It will only be available to those subscribers within the Yankees territory. We are hoping this addition will not increase the package price, at least that is Mike's goal. We hope to have more info in the coming weeks, or sooner. (source Joe York, NPS)
